Leadership Development formats

Hello everyone,
In our last conversation we talked a bit about different formats and what types of things we are doing. Some really good sharing came from it. Unfortunately, we didn't use Elluminate so there's no available recording from that conversation. We will be posting some resource links on the blog later on. We are also working on creating a Facebook grouping as more of you use and are familiar with that tool.
We will be meeting once again in January. The next meeting will be conducted by Bryan Garey from the University of Virginia and it will be held Friday January 21 st at 2:00PM.
Here's the link for the session: https://elluminate.med.miami.edu:443/join_meeting.html?meetingId=1248406297044 The link will only be active 1 hour before the session date and time.

If you have had problems connecting to Elluminate before, it is a good idea to test your computer by going to www.elluminate.com/support. Make sure you have Java updtate 22 installed or you will get an error message and will not be able to login.
If you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to contact me at 305-243-3090.
Thanks,
Sandy

Leadership development and Blended Learning

Hello everyone,
Can you believe that it is almost Thanksgiving? This year just flew us by. Our next gathering will be on November 18th. I will be sending out the reminder later today. Unfortunately, our Elluminate Licenses are all being used that day as part of a big training initiative at UM for a new system that we are rolling out, so I will be sending a telephone number for a conference bridge for the 18th. If you haven't yet, take a look at the results of the survey Janet put together for us, it is a good way to learn more about each other.
For November we will be continuing our discussion on Leadership Development but focusing more on different formats, especially Blended Learning. Hope to see you there.

Leadership Development

Hello everyone,
We had a great conversation today on Leadership Development. Here’s the link for the recording for today’s Webinar.
https://elluminate.med.miami.edu/play_recording.html?recordingId=1248402097380_1285349202888
I will also post it on the blog. Janet Lowe from the University of Colorado created a Survey on Leadership Development. Take the time to complete it if you haven't yet, it will be a great tool for everyone. The link for the survey is http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2QCR8L6

Janet will be sharing the results on the blog, so that is accessible to everyone.

We also talked about the best way to get together and Janet recommended having a standing date for our Webinars. I will be sending a meeting request for a recurring date of the third Friday of every other month.

For the next Webinar in November we will be continuing talking about Leadership Development, but focusing on blended learning and how to use it to increase our capacity of offering more learning activities, with less resources.

Hope to see you then.

2nd Webinar

Hello everyone,
We are going to meet again today at 2:00 PM ET time. We will be discussing Leadership training and how is it being done by each group.

Please prepare an overview of what you currently do for Leadership Training in your Organization, your current and desired state. Some of us are doing very interesting things in this topic, and it will be a great opportunity to get some creative ideas around the topic and how to deliver the training on a tight budget. If you want to use a PowerPoint, just send it to me and I will put it all together. If not, we’ll just go over the talking points. I'll post the discussion points after the meeting so that we can continue our discussion.

Here’s the link for the virtual session:

Hope to see you there.

Update

Hello everyone, we had our first Webinar and I personally thought it was a great start. We got to know each other a bit better and our areas of interest as well. One of the decisions that we made is that we would like to select a few topics and meet virtually through a Webinar, every other month. I will be sending out a list of topics and we will be voting on the topics as a group. We will then have Webinars around those topics.
Since we will not be meeting in June, I will post the topics list that we brainstormed together and we can all vote on them. We then will do some pre-work posting before the Webinar. We will add a posting to the topic, describing what we are currently doing in that area. We can then discuss the topic in lot more depth on the Webinar. I will be compiling the list and posting it on the blog and send it in out on an email as well.

Webinar

Unfortunately, the Webinar did not happen on the 21st of May. Several of you were having login issues. I have researched the issue that you were experiencing, and here's what our IT recommends:

The latest Java update doesn't seem to be working on the client side. If users have anything higher than Java 6 update 18, they should uninstall it and try again. click on the link below once you have removed the latest update of Java and see if you can connect. Let me know how I can assist you in testing and ensuring that you are able to connect.

Webinar Date

Hello everyone,
Hope all is going well. I am trying to schedule the Webinar for all of us to meet virtually and start our conversation going. I am looking at May 21st at 2:00PM ET. Let me know if this time works for you. According to the survey we had floating around; most of you would like to start by learning a bit more about everyone else. It will be a good way to also find out what topics we are all interested in and set an agenda for blog discussion, around those topics.
It would be great if you could create a 2-3 page PowerPoint presentation for that day that covers:
1. Your department and role in your University
2. What topics you would like to share information on

I am looking forward to it. Please feel share to post any topics or questions on the blog.

Marketing your courses

What are some of the challenges that you have in these areas? How do you market your courses that are not mandatory or compliance related? Do you find that you are getting the response that you are looking for? What type of resources do you have available to you, and what would you like to do differently?

Finding an LMS

A lot of you mentioned to me that you are looking at getting a Learning Management System. A few years ago we went through the process of selecting and implementing a Learning Management System. We also presented at a eLearning Guild conference and CUPA what our experience was like. I am attaching a link to this posting that contains some materials that may assist you with your search and project.

I hope you find it helpful. Let me know if you have any questions.
